Penile shock waves (Shock-wave therapy)

What is penile shockwave therapy used for? When penile shock waves are transmitted to the penis, they increase or regenerate blood microcirculation which promotes the formation of new blood vessels. The result of this process is improved vascularization of the penis.
Shock waves are artificially generated mechanical waves that cause physical stimulation on the tissues which react by producing anti-inflammatory factors, factors regenerating the vascular microcirculation up to a real regeneration of the neighboring tissues.
For tens of years, shock waves were applied only in the treatment of stones, to then be introduced in physiotherapy and only recently have they found application in the treatment of erectile dysfunction, chronic abacterial prostatitis and even more recently induratio penis plastic or Peyronie’s disease.
The treatment is outpatient, lasting about 30 minutes, totally asymptomatic. The sessions are weekly for a variable period between 6 and 8 sessions according to the starting pathology.

A non-negligible aspect of this therapy is the total absence of side effects.

SHOCK WAVES IN THE TREATMENT OF ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION

An erection among other things is the result of the perfect functionality of the arteries and veins combined with a good trophism of the penile tissues. The effect of shock waves has the purpose of restoring the functionality of these structures by regenerating the vascular function of the microcirculation and the elasticity of the tissues.

SHOCK WAVES IN THE TREATMENT OF CHRONIC ABACTERIAL PROSTATITIS

Chronic abacterial prostatitis is the most widespread form of prostatitis, difficult to treat and very often with a highly negative impact on the patient. The shock waves have the ability to stimulate the tissue to recall anti-inflammatory factors.

    Dr. Andrea Cocci

    urologist and andrologist

The decision to dedicate my professional life to urology and in particular to andrological and reconstructive surgery is the result of a deep passion for anatomy , the art of surgery and in general the diagnostic-therapeutic process which leads to the recovery of the patient. Oncological pathology, infertility, erectile dysfunction, penile diseases or simply prostate disorders irreparably afflict not only the individual but also the couple dimension.
