UROLOGICAL SURGERY
Varicocelectomy
Varicocelectomy
Varicocelectomy surgery is performed in patients with varicocele. Varicocele consists in the dilatation of the veins of the spermatic cord and is consequent
to the reversal of flow within the spermatic venous district. This leads to an increase in temperature in the testicle with possible alterations in the quality of the seminal fluid and consequent reduction in fertility. Treatment of varicocele can improve sperm quality and increase fertility.
Varicocelectomy is generally performed in a day-hospital regime under general anesthesia and consists in the ligation and section of the veins of the spermatic cord through a small 2-3 cm incision in the groin.
Varicocele can recur and in the case treated with new varicocelectomy or scleroembolization surgery
(local injection of substances that cause closure of the venous vessels responsible for the recurrence)
A possible consequence of the operation is represented by the onset of hydrocele
(collection of liquid around the testicle due to reduced venous drainage) which may eventually recede or require hydrocelectomy.
Complications are rare and are usually represented by hematomas.

The decision to dedicate my professional life to urology and in particular to andrological and reconstructive surgery is the result of a deep passion for anatomy , the art of surgery and in general the diagnostic-therapeutic process which leads to the recovery of the patient. Oncological pathology, infertility, erectile dysfunction, penile diseases or simply prostate disorders irreparably afflict not only the individual but also the couple dimension.
