Platelet rich plasma (PRP)

PRP in andrology is used essentially for two pathologies: erectile dysfunction and Peyronie’s disease.

The platelets present in our blood have great tissue regenerative capacities and this concept is the basis of the use of PRP, or enriched platelet plasma, in medicine. In fact, blood, properly processed and injected back into our body, can stimulate and promote tissue regeneration.

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is obtained by centrifugation of autologous blood (i.e. taken from the same patient), which produces a plasma with a high concentration of platelets, called platelet concentrate.

The plasma thus obtained finds various applications especially in the field of cosmetic surgery and for hair regrowth, while in andrology it is used essentially for two pathologies: erectile dysfunction and Peyronie’s disease.

PRP IN THE TREATMENT OF PEYRONIE'S DISEASE

PRP for erectile dysfunction is now considered a rather effective treatment. In fact, at the end of the infiltration cycle, better erections and a good degree of patient satisfaction are noted. There are no age limits to perform this treatment nor any side effects. Treatment with PRP or platelet plasma is therefore a valid treatment for penile rejuvenation and improvement of erectile deficit

PRP NEL TRATTAMENTO DELLA MALATTIA DI LA PEYRONIE

PRP can also be used successfully in the treatment of Peyronie’s disease. The therapy consists of a cycle of 4 infiltrations with an interval of 2 weeks for each infiltration. PRP infiltration is performed under local anesthesia and approximately 6 ml of PRP is infiltrated into the penile plaque. In a clinical study involving 10 injections and a 6-month observation period, penile curvature reduction was observed in 22 percent to 50% of treated patients, while penile plaque decreased in size in 50% of treated patients and softened in approximately 60% of patients. An improvement in erectile function was also noted in 56% of patients.
