Rezūm treatment: what it is and how it works
Rezūm treatment: what it is and how it works
Among the many possible treatments to counteract benign prostatic hypertrophy, the treatment with water vapor performed using the Rezūm system is certainly effective. Recommended for all those patients who want to interrupt drug therapy and who are not yet ready for surgery.
The Rezum technique does not involve cutting. The instrument sclerotizes the prostate adenoma by means of steam, forcing it to reduce its volume. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia or mild sedation and in day hospital.
It will be necessary to keep a catheter in place for a few days exactly like the other techniques and at the same time take antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs.
Any post-operative side effects are totally reversible within a few weeks of the operation and very often do not even manifest themselves.
Rezūm has potential risks, but was designed to significantly reduce the irritant and obstructive urinary symptoms associated with BPH. With this treatment it is possible to reduce the volume of the prostate by about 40% and to act both on the hypertrophic central area and on the third lobe. It is possible to resort to this technique for prostates up to 80 grams. In cases where the gland should present a greater increase in volume, it is always advisable to consult your doctor.
