Straighten curved penis
Curved penis is a condition that afflicts more than 1% of the male population in Italy. It manifests as an anatomical malformation that causes the penis to assume a curvature, more or less pronounced. The member bends to the right or left (lateral), upward (dorsal), or downward (ventral). Inclination varies from subject to subject and from case to case. When the angle becomes particularly tight, there are serious consequences to be dealt with. Straightening curved penis therefore becomes a priority for all men who want to continue to have a normal sex life without painful consequences and side effects.
Fibrous-cytial tissue
Curved penis is a condition that manifests itself through the formation of a fibrous-cicatricial plaque within the corpora cavernosa of the penis. Anatomically, the external male reproductive organ has a central body, within which run two distinct tubular structures.
These tubular structures are located within the corpora cavernosa of the penis, located at the top and side. The lower section, on the other hand, is occupied by the Spongy body, crossed by the urethra. The tubulars are crossed by the cavernous arteries and on the outside they have a very elastic connective tissue called tunica, or albuginea tonaca.
When blood flows into the cavernous arteries, it dilates the corpora cavernosa and allows the penis to erect. When, on the other hand, a cluster of fibrous-cicatricial tissue has formed in the corpora cavernosa, the corpora cavernosa are compressed, unable to swell with blood, and do not allow the penis to become erect.
As a result, curved penis pathology leads to erectile dysfunction, causes pain during erection, and, when the angle is really pronounced, does not allow one to consume sexual intercourse without causing pain to one’s partner.
Referral to an Andrologist-Urologist
Today, fortunately, the pathology of curved penis can be addressed in several specialized centers that deal specifically with this disease. Research and studies over time, have gone on and several drugs have been found and put many treatments to undergo to treatInduratio penis plastica (IPP).
Of these, a pharmacological, rather than surgical, approach can be chosen. However, the first step is still to see an andrologist, or urologist for thorough examinations and a specialist examination. As obvious as the diagnosis may be even to the patient, the physician may require an ultrasound scan to pinpoint the precise location of the fibrotic plaque.
Having made the necessary investigations, the doctor will need to take several factors into account before choosing the treatment to straighten curved penis:
- degree of curvature of the penis
- stability or otherwise of curvature
- psychological state of the patient
- Severity of perceived pain during erection and intercourse
- Any other previous unsuccessful interventions/treatments
As mentioned earlier, each case has its own characteristics, symptoms and potential risks. It is up to the andrologist to determine the best course of action.
Straightening curved penis: drug treatments
Generally, the route of drug treatment is chosen if the penile curvature is mild and the inclination moderate. There are various approaches to the problem involving the use of different drugs, to be injected directly into the corpora cavernosa of the penis under local anesthesia:
- Verapamil
- Interferon
- Collagenase of Clostridium histolyticum
VERMAPIL
It is a calcium channel blocker drug, that is, it blocks calcium channels. Verapamil injections thus prevent plaque calcification and aid the breakdown of collagen forming fibrous-cytial tissue.
INTERFERON
This is a protein that is normally produced by the immune system during viral infections. It is an excellent inhibitor of fibroplastic proliferation and collagen production.
COLLAGENESIS OF CLOSTRIDIUM HISTOLYTICUM
This is definitely the most effective solution to straighten curved penis. La
collagenesis
is an enzyme that destroys and breaks down the collagen plaque tissue that has formed in the corpora cavernosa of the penis. a true innovation-revolution in the field of pharmacological treatment of PPI. It is the first and only drug with precise indication for the treatment of curved penis and
Peyronie’s disease
. Every other drug is in fact prescribed outside its actual areas of indication, that is, “off label.”
Collagen injections are a noninvasive system to straighten curved penises, the only one that can intervene even when curvatures are between 30 and 90 degrees. Injections are given while the penis is flaccid and under local anesthesia. Manual penile manipulation by the andrologist is usually practiced between punctures. A necessary maneuver to break up the fibrous plaque.
Straighten curved penis: penile prosthesis implantation
Among the therapies adopted to solve the problem of curved penis, surgery by which penile prostheses are installed is undoubtedly one of the most popular. There are different prostheses that differ in function and implant type:
- semirigid non-inflatable prostheses
- inflatable prostheses
Non-inflatable semi-rigid penile prostheses
They involve two cylinders implanted directly into the corpora cavernosa of the penis and bending during sexual activity. With this solution, the penis always remains in a semi-rigid position, but equally easy to disguise.
Non-inflatable semi-rigid penile prostheses
In this case, prostheses installed inside the corpora cavernosa of the penis serve to help the member perform and maintain an erection by inflating the inserted cylinders with a special fluid. Two separate cylindrical structures are then installed, a small tank for the liquid and the pump to operate the device.
Surgeries performed to install penile prostheses are usually performed under general, or spinal, anesthesia. Cylinders are inserted following an incision made by the surgeon just above the peno, or between the penis and scrotum. The cut is deep enough to reveal the cavernous bodies of the member where the prostheses are inserted. The patient is also inserted a catheter, which is usually removed the day after surgery.
Insertion of a penile prosthesis to straighten curved penis is an invasive technique, for which hospitalization is required (unlike pharmacological interventions). Normal sexual activity can be resumed 4 to 8 weeks after surgery, but it always depends on the case by case

Dr. Andrea Cocci
urologist and andrologist
The choice to devote my professional life to urology and in particular to andrologic and reconstructive surgery is the result of a deep passion for anatomy, the art of surgery and in general the diagnostic therapeutic process leading to patient recovery. Oncological pathology, infertility, erectile dysfunction, penile disease, or simply prostate disorders irretrievably afflict not only the individual but also the couple dimension.
